Difference in the Number of Attempts
The total number of attempts that a student can give in for JEE mains is three attempts, and the number of attempts they have for JEE advanced is limited to two attempts. The three attempts for JEE mains are for three consecutive years, and the entry to JEE advanced is for two consecutive attempts.
Difference in JEE Main and JEE Advanced Exam Pattern
- The JEE Main exam will have a total of three papers, and the JEE Advanced exam will have a total of two papers for each attempt.
- Both the exams are computer based tests.
- The JEE Main paper is of three hours’ duration, and the JEE Advanced paper is of six hours’ duration.
- JEE Mains will have questions that pertain to MCQs, drawings, and non-MCQ questions. JEE Advanced will be limited to questions of the MCQ, numerical, or non-MCQ type.
- The JEE Mains have a total of 90 questions, and students are expected to answer 75 of them; each question is worth four marks. There is a correct marking structure when it comes to JEE Advanced.

Qualification Criteria
The qualification for JEE Mains is the 12th standard from a recognised school in India or abroad. To appear in the JEE Advanced, the candidate will need a good rank in the JEE Main.
Age Limit
Applicants must be born on or after October 1, 1997 to qualify for the general category. A 5-year relaxation is granted to candidates who are SC/ST/PWD.
