JEE Mains exam, the entrance exam for admissions to the country’s top IITs, NITs, CFTIs and other engineering institutions, is nearing. The date of application for the JEE Main exam 2021 to be conducted from Feb 23 to 26 is over and the correction window for undertaking amendments is open from 27th to 30th January.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), the authorized body for organizing, scheduling, and conducting JEE exams has implemented certain changes this year. The JEE 2021 exams will be conducted in four phases accordingly.
The exams will be in February, March, April, and May. Considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students’ studies and preparation, the mandatory requirement of 75% marks in 12th class has been removed. Further, the number of exam centres has been increased phenomenally.
The sequence of events for the candidates, who have registered for appearing in the JEE Mains exam are as follows:
Admit card – Scheduled to be issued w.e.f 02nd week of February 2021
Exam Dates – The exam begins on 23 February 2021. The exam will be conducted in two sessions, i.e. morning 9-12 and afternoon 3-6 (6.30 for B. Arch and B. Planning)The subsequent phases are appended below:
Release of Response Sheet and Question Paper – The answer key, as well as, the question paper will be released in February 2021. You can pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 200 (for each question) if you want to challenge any answer in the answer key. However, you may note that the amount will not be refunded even if the answer in the key is wrong and yours correct.
There are some major changes in the exam pattern of JEE Mains 2021. The previous year i.e. JEE Mains 2020, the total number of questions was reduced to 75. However, the National Testing Agency has decided to reverse the changes. Hence, Maths, Physics, and Chemistry will have 30 questions each. Making the total number of questions to 90, as existing before 2020.
Section A and B of the exams will have 20 objective type questions and 10 numerical value questions respectively. You have to attend at least 25 questions from each section. Further, the agency has decided to conduct the exam in 13 languages. Thereby, making the JEE Mains 2021 more convenient to students.
The negative marking for the exam remains as before. Every correct answer will fetch you 04 marks each. And a wrong answer can result in a deduction of 01 marks each. The exam modes of BE/ B.Tech, B. Arch and B. Planning are appended below:
BE/ B.Tech – Online test of 03-hour duration, consisting of 90 questions from the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of which, the candidate must answer at least 25 questions each from each subject. The total marks for the exam is 300 marks.
B.Arch – The Mathematics and Aptitude test for B. Arch in JEE Mains 2021 will be in online mode. There will be a drawing exam as well, which will be on pen/ paper mode. The number of questions in B.Arch is different from BE/B. Tech. It will have 82 questions(Maths – 30, Aptitude – 50, Drawing – 02). You must answer at least 25 questions from Mathematics. And all the questions from Aptitude and Drawing, making the total number of questions to be answered to 77. Total marks – 400.
B.Planning – B. Planning will have 105 questions, viz. Maths – 30, Aptitude – 50, Planning – 25. Out of which you have to attend at least 25 Maths questions. And all the questions from Aptitude and Planning. Making the total number of questions to be attended to 100. The total marks for the exam is 400.
