What are the Eligibility Criteria to Join IITs?

Gaining exemplary grades and gaining one of the top ranks in JEE Advanced is the basic requirement to join the elite IITs in the country. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is the authorized body to conduct JEE. The agency has waived off the requirement of a minimum cut off percentage of 75% in 10+2 board exams, due to the prevailing COVID conditions.

The criteria for joining an IIT are:

  • 10+2
  •  Qualifying in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced
  • Counselling by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA)

However, the qualification requirements for joining M.Tech programs in the IITs are different.

  • The candidate should have Bachelor Degree in Engineering or should be in the final year of the same for applying for the entrance exam named GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
  •  Admissions to IITs would depend on the ranks of the aspirant in the GATE
